Rewrite my IELTS essay at a higher band: see your own Writing at band 6, 7, 8 and 9, with the reason for each score

Most people know their Writing band is "too low" but cannot see what a higher band looks like for their essay. A model essay from a book has other ideas, so it does not help much. Now you can take your own essay and see it rewritten at band 6, 6.5, 7, 7.5, 8, 8.5 or 9 with the same ideas, and read why each version gets that score.

What it does

After you finish a Writing task in the Tilmashq simulator, the results screen shows a block called "Rewrite my essay at a chosen band". It has seven buttons, from Band 6 to Band 9. Press one and the AI:

Every try is saved, so you can compare

Press Band 7, read it, then press Band 7.5 — you now have two versions. A tick appears on the buttons you have already used. Tap a ticked button to switch to that version again, for free. The versions stay on your device with the rest of your history, for Task 1 and Task 2 separately.

It also works for essays you wrote earlier, as long as they are still saved in this browser. You do not have to buy a review first.

How to use it so it really helps

  1. Write the task first, honestly. The rewrite is only useful if it starts from your real level.
  2. Look one band up, not four. If you write at about 6, open 6.5 and 7. Band 9 is interesting to see, but it is too far to copy from.
  3. Compare, do not just read. Switch with the buttons between your own text (the "Your answer" section above) and the versions at different bands, and find three changes: a linking word, a more exact word, a sentence built in a new way. Our articles on Linking words in IELTS Writing: where however and therefore belong, a paragraph rewritten and typical mistakes and IELTS Writing Task 2: how to write a band 7 essay, structure, samples and essay checking against the criteria explain why such changes matter.
  4. Use the "why" part. It tells you which criterion moved the band, so you know what to train: connecting ideas, vocabulary or grammar.
  5. Try the moves on a different task. Write your next Writing drill on a new topic and use two or three of the moves you noticed on purpose. There is no point in writing the same essay again: what matters is whether you can do it on a new text. A detailed review will show if it helped.

Take not ready-made sentences but moves: how to link ideas, which word is more exact, how to build a sentence. The exam question will be different.

What changes from band to band

This is a rough picture in our own words, not an official table. The rewrite follows the same idea:

BandHow the text usually reads
6The message is clear, but the words are plain and repeat, and mistakes are easy to notice
7Ideas are linked smoothly, vocabulary is more exact, there are few mistakes
8Precise and natural wording, complex sentences, very rare slips
9Reads like a skilled writer. This is the hardest band to reach, so use it as a look at the ceiling

What it costs

The simulator is free, but this feature uses points: 40 points per try. You get points for practising (finished drills, the daily visit, the start bonus), so the start bonus already covers a few tries. If the model does not answer, the points come back automatically. Switching between versions you already have costs nothing.

Limitations

Questions

Does it work for Task 1? Yes, for Task 1 and Task 2. The AI sees the task and the data of the graph and checks your text against them: it corrects a wrong figure and, if you missed a main trend or the overview, adds it. It does not invent figures that are not on the graph. What was fixed is listed in the "Content fixes" block.
